He had died two hours after eating in the restaurant he usually ate, and a letter was found in his pocket. When Poirot goes to the doctor who examined the body, he says that Gascoigne died because he fell down the stairs. He finds out that the man’s name is Henry Gascoigne and died the week before. Poirot is curious and his curiosity increases when he learns that the man has stopped going to the restaurant. Molly, the waitress, confirms Henry’s words, and she says that they were surprised when the man turned up on Monday and ordered something which he never ate, blackberry pie. Poirot is having dinner with his friend Henry Bonnington in a restaurant, and Henry points at a man who he says comes to the restaurant every Tuesday and Thursday, but the staff don’t know a thing about him, not even his name.
